Car sales rebound in first quarter

Retail sales of new and used vehicles in Monroe County rebounded in the first quarter, the Rochester Automobile Dealers’ Association Inc. reported.
Some 8,718 new cars and trucks have been sold here since Dec. 31, compared with 7,457 in the first quarter of 2007, a nearly 17 percent increase. Used-vehicle sales increased nearly 4 percent for the quarter, from 4,680 to 4,850.
In January, 2,476 new vehicles were sold in Monroe County, up from 1,834 in January 2007. Used-vehicle sales increased from 1,354 to 1,434 in January. Area dealers sold 2,756 new cars and trucks in February, compared with 2,193 last year, while used-car sales increased to 1,552 from 1,395 in February 2007.
Last month some 3,486 new vehicles were sold in Monroe County, up slightly from 3,430 a year ago. Used vehicle sales fell slightly from 1,931 in March 2007 to 1,864 last month.
RADA data does not include sales from nonmember dealers or those outside of Monroe County. RADA has revised data for 2007 to include retail sales volume only and excludes fleet sales.
