New and used car sales grow in ’07

Sales of new and used vehicles in Monroe County in December fell slightly from a year ago, but total sales for the year improved, the Rochester Automobile Dealers’ Association Inc. reported.
Area dealers sold 2,802 new vehicles last month, down nearly 2 percent from 2,754 in November but up nearly 4 percent from 2,705 a year ago. Some 1,154 used cars and trucks were sold here last month, down more than 17 percent from 1,394 in November and nearly 15 percent from 1,356 a year ago.
A total of 3,956 new and used vehicles were sold in Monroe County in December, a nearly 5 percent decline from 4,148 in November and nearly 3 percent decline from 4,061 a year ago. New and used vehicle sales typically fall from November to December, RADA historical data shows.
For the year, area dealers sold 59,032 new and used cars and trucks, a nearly 2 percent increase from 57,938 in 2006. In 2006 vehicle sales hit a 15-year low here, RADA data shows.
RADA data does not include sales from non-member dealers or those outside of Monroe County.
