HealthGrades gives Unity five stars

HealthGrades Inc. has awarded Unity Hospital and Unity Health System’s downtown St. Mary’s campus five-star ratings, singling out the Rochester-area health care facilities among 10 in the state for its 2006 Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence awards.
The Distinguished Hospital awards are part of an annual study done by the health care facility rating company.
HealthGrades analyzes data on clinical outcomes and quality from more than 5,000 hospitals in all 50 states adjusting for factors such as severity of conditions treated. Five-star ratings indicate better than expected outcomes. Three-star ratings indicate outcomes as expected. Hospitals getting a single star have outcomes worse than expected.
To get the five-star designation, Unity scored better than expected in outcomes for heart failure, stroke and several other categories.
