Monroe, Ontario and Wayne counties will receive a total of nearly $120,000 in state grants for snowmobile trail maintenance and local law enforcement efforts.
Monroe County will receive $30,750, Ontario County will get $31,925, and Wayne County will receive $57,000.
The grant money will be used to help secure insurance coverage for local snowmobile clubs and improve trail designs. The grant program is funded by snowmobile trail grant fees collected by the state Department of Motor Vehicles at the time of registration.
“The Central-Finger Lakes region is home to some of the greatest snowmobile trails in the nation,†said state Senator Michael Nozzolio, R-Fayette.
He noted the improvements could create jobs and winter tourism opportunities in local communities.
“This state funding will help us maintain those trails and ensure snowmobilers from our region and across the state can enjoy them for years to come.â€
