St. Joseph’s Neighborhood Center offers health care, advocacy and education to uninsured and underinsured
individuals in the Rochester area.
A ministry of the Sisters of St. Joseph Inc., the Center is committed to providing quality care and
comprehensive services that enhance the well-being of individuals, families and the community.
The Center provides health care to some 2,000 patients annually, accounting for 6,000 patient visits a
year.
St. Joseph’s offers the following programs and services:
— Counseling and spirituality services-Counseling is available in several areas, including personal and
family counseling, crisis counseling, mental health awareness, spirituality, women’s group, stress-reduction
group and an addiction support center.
— Literacy/GED program-Working with the Rochester City School District, the Center helps clients work
toward their general equivalency diploma and achieve basic reading and math skills.
— Primary health care-The Center offers physical examinations, women’s health care, functional
assessments, blood pressure readings, immunizations and laboratory tests.
— Advocacy-The Center provides assistance with food, clothing and shelter referrals; social service
application; drug program referrals; and family and individual concerns.
St. Joseph’s provides its services with the help of more than 130 clinical and lay volunteers, including
doctors, nurses, social workers, counselors, office workers and educators.
Some 95 percent of the Center’s pharmaceutical supplies come from physicians’ overstock of samples.
The organization’s executive director is Sister Christine Wagner of the Sisters of St. Joseph.
