ViaHealth trims down boards

The ViaHealth integrated health system announced today that it has pared its component institutions’ boards down to a single more streamlined body.
The new configuration has four subordinates reporting to a so-called “system board,” ViaHealth said.
Included in the ViaHealth system are Rochester General Hospital and Genesee Hospital in Rochester and ViaHealth of Wayne, which includes two Wayne County hospitals. ViaHealth is midstream in a program to merge Rochester General and Genesee into a single acute-care facility.
Previously, each hospital as well as other component institutions had its own governing board.
The old multiboard structure made sense when ViaHealth was first created, but the new one will provide “accountability for affiliates across the system,” said ViaHealth board chair Beth Wilkens.
