Russia deploys bombers near Alaska

Russia’s Defense Ministry has deployed nuclear-capable “Bear” bombers to bases opposite Alaska for training that may include flights toward North America. The Pentagon said it expected the planes to test air defenses soon by flying up through the Bering Straits and close to Alaska. It plans to closely monitor the flights, which have been rare since the Cold War ended.
