Presidential election intrigue expands

Vice President Al Gore, still trailing in the battle to get Florida’s critical 25 electoral votes, plans to fight the results of Tuesday’s presidential election in the Sunshine State. Gore campaign officials today said it will mount a legal challenge and demand a recount by hand of ballots in four counties. Bush’s margin in Florida has dwindled to fewer than 1,000 votes with thousands of overseas ballots still in question. And another state, New Mexico, will hold a limited recount as well. Gore won New Mexico’s five electoral votes, edging Bush by some 10,000 votes.
