Ikon Office Solutions Inc. has acquired OA Systems Inc., the parent company of the local New Horizons Computer Learning Centers Inc.
In June, the technical-learning centers in Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse and Albany will become part of Ikon Office Solutions’ Technical Services’ Division, which will be renamed Technical Services/Education Division.

Ikon Office Solutions Inc. has acquired OA Systems Inc., the parent company of the local New Horizons Computer Learning Centers Inc.
In June, the technical-learning centers in Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse and Albany will become part of Ikon Office Solutions’ Technical Services’ Division, which will be renamed Technical Services/Education Division.
OA Systems negotiated an agreement with New Horizons Worldwide Inc. that will release Ikon, of Overland Park, Kan., from franchisee obligations in June. Ikon, through the OA Systems agreement, also will honor long-term service agreements with New Horizons’ major accounts in Upstate New York.
The idea was to assure continuity of service to clients. The learning centers have formed several alliances with network and software providers, and are authorized technical-education centers for Microsoft, Novell and Lotus.
OA Systems was founded in 1983 and had sales of more than $20 million in 1996 through its New Horizons centers.
Jeffrey Dodson, general manager of the learning centers, said the acquisition is good news for the operation.
“It’s really exciting because it really helps us to solidify our position,” he said.
Ikon also has made moves to increase sales of its office supplies and copiers in the upstate region, which should bring more business to the learning centers, said Dodson and Ikon representatives. Having a large international company’s resources behind the center also will spur growth.
The learning centers provide computer training for some 50 customers in Rochester and more than 225 in the upstate region.
