plan to merge

Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic and F.F. Thompson Health System Inc. have taken the first step toward merging their operations.
The hospital boards voted earlier this week to pursue development of a common parent company for both systems, the hospitals said. The process is expected to take 10 to 16 months.
“I believe the benefits are many and will enhance not only the depth of service we provide, but also continue the quality of care for our community,” said Linda Janczak, president and CEO of F.F. Thompson, which is in Canandaigua.
“We believe this will lead to greater productivity placing both organizations in a better position to creatively manage the changes we face in our industry today and tomorrow.”
Both organizations will begin to explore shared services immediately, she said. However, major changes in operations are not expected until the merger process is completed.
“This new relationship with F.F. Thompson Health System represents an opportunity for us to maximize the efficient use of programs and services that are offered to our community,” said John Galati, president and CEO of Clifton Springs. “Combining resources has been a proven method to assure existence and growth in such a changing environment as health care. We are very positive about our future together.”
The hospitals are two of the last in the Rochester area to make a consolidation move. The pending affiliations include those between Newark-Wayne Community Hospital and Myers Community Hospital; Geneva Regional Health System Inc. and St. Jerome Hospital; St. Mary’s Hospital and Park Ridge Health System Inc.; and Strong Memorial and Highland hospitals.
