Consulting firm dissolving

Partners in the Great Lakes Leadership Group Inc. consulting firm say they are dissolving the company.
However, the move is not a breakup of their eight-year partnership, said Great Lakes principals John Engels and Frank Staropoli.
Engels said he and Staropoli will continue to work together and separately with Great Lakes’ current client roster.
In a 1994 Rochester Business Journal profile of the Great Lakes partners, Engels described the firm’s mission as helping clients integrate qualities such as trust, compassion and honesty into business life.
One Great Lakes client described the management consultancy’s approach as “holistic.” Among the firm’s clients were Saatchi & Saatchi Business Communications and Impco Enterprises Inc.
Staropoli is a former business executive and owner who holds a master’s degree in pastoral theology. Engels worked as a sports/news reporter before earning a degree in systematic theology.
The pair formed a consulting partnership after working together at the Great Lakes Ministry Center, an organization doing leadership training for religious groups.
Engels said the reason for ending the firm’s eight-year run now was “from my perspective because administration took too much time. I wanted to spend more time coaching and mentoring CEOs.”
Staropoli said his reasons for dissolving the business are similar.
“I had enough of managing,” he said. “I wanted to do the work itself.
The move “is not just positive to me; it’s exciting,” he added.
Engels said he and Staropoli plan to close Great Lakes’ Alexander Street office as of Sept. 1. Each thereafter will work out of their respective homes.
Great Lakes employees Sherri McArdle and James Ramerman are joining forces to form a new consulting firm, Leadership Systems, Engels said.
