Non-Profit Report:
Hospital Consortium of Greater Rochester

A WEEKLY PROFILE OF A LOCAL NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION

Nine hospital systems in the Greater Rochester area make up the Hospital Consortium of Greater Rochester. Its members and their affiliated programs and services join forces to improve the quality, accessibility and affordability of health care for some 800,000 people in Monroe and Livingston counties.
Cooperation is the focal point of HCGR, encouraging a sharing of information and external communication, and developing innovative and practical solutions to health care challenges.
HCGR is the successor to the Rochester Area Hospitals Corp. that was formed in 1978 and was best-known for administering a Hospital Experimental Payments program of cooperative reimbursement and cost control that ran from 1980 to 1990. At its conclusion, RAHC’s mission was refocused and in August of 1993 it made the transition to HCGR.
HCGR accomplishes its mission in part through its for-profit subsidiary, Rochester Healthcare Information Group Inc. Its data base of inpatient information is the building block for the Rochester Area Community Healthcare Information System, one of many projects under way at HCGR.
