Guardian Industries plans
to build plant in Geneva

Guardian Industries Corp. of Auburn Hills, Mich., will build a $125 million float glass plant in the Geneva Industrial Park.
The project, which could create 250 jobs, has been in the works for several months as Guardian Industries worked out a deal with the state, the Geneva Industrial Development Agency and local utilities.
Guardian Industries will receive loans and grants for training and infrastructure improvements as well as normal enterprise-zone benefits, in return for locating in Geneva.
“We looked at several sites in the Northeast and made our decision to locate in Geneva because of the way New York State conducts business,” said Russ Ebeid, president of Guardian Industries’ Glass Group. “Working with state and local officials, we were assured of a productive work force, a suitable location for our new plant and a business-friendly climate.”
Ebeid said construction would be completed as soon as possible following the receipt of all necessary permits, commitments and clearances.
Guardian Industries is privately held and a leading worldwide manufacturer and fabricator of flat-glass products used in the automotive and construction industries.
The company also manufactures a broad line of fiberglass insulation, molded plastic products and automotive exterior-trim products.
Float glass describes the manufacturing process that involves floating glass on a bath of molten tin to produce a ribbon of glass.
“This is a major signal for the city of Geneva and Ontario County that they can compete and are in step on New York’s road to renewal,” said Gov. George Pataki in a prepared statement. “Decisions made by companies like Guardian Industries to make significant investment in New York State prove that we can create good jobs and real opportunity with the right business environment.”
