If you are stumped at finding a new way to motivate employees, Chicago-area educator John Fabjance says you should try magic.
At first, it sounds a bit offbeat, but Fabjance, also a magician, has presented seminars on more personal issues for employee-assistance programs and serious issues such as redefining visions or goals.

“In this information-saturated society, people are bombarded from all sides with messages designed to motivate, persuade and sell,” says Fabjance on his Web page, John Fabjance’s Motivating with Magic and “Mind Games” Home Page.
“Magic is subtle–it reaches people on a different level of awareness.”
His page, at http://www.magicmgmt.com, has several examples of how and why magic can work for any workplace.
Some other sites of interest this week:
–Harrison on Leadership is a page of articles on just that topic by Lars Harrison, a Raleigh, N.C., consultant. He has information on character-based leadership, values-based leadership, corporate-process leadership, management for the 21st century and spirit in business (although the site appears to lack an archiving function to store and locate previous articles).
His page this week has “As the owner/CEO/president should you lead or manage?” He outlines his own view on when it is time for a company to hire a chief operating officer.
He also has an article on breaking up departments into small, individual corporations (instead of outsourcing) and on the “Industry Chaplain.” By industry chaplain, he means the person responsible for turning employees onto the company’s vision and developing employees’ skills.
Harrison’s home page is at http://www.altika.com.
–Holland & Davis Inc. is a Houston-based management consultant with a site at http://www.hdinc.com.
The site has all the obligatory information about the company’s services and customers. However, it also has a useful question-and-answer section that is updated at least monthly. The old questions are archived.
For example, the site answers questions on team building, helping individuals cope with a company’s changing strategies and tactics, and communicating with employees.
