Five area firms get state grants

Five companies in the Finger Lakes region have received $177,500 in state grants during the past six months, Gov. George Pataki’s office announced today.
The grants, part of the state’s Industrial Effectiveness Program, were awarded to two Monroe County companies. Brockport Enterprises Inc., a printing and packaging firm that employs 44 workers, received a $40,000 IEP grant. A $10,000 grant went to MWI Inc., manufacturer of electric discharge machining.
Also nabbing IEP grants were North American Filter Corp. of Newark, which manufactures industrial filtration systems. North American Filter got a $9,800 grant.
Monroe Electronics of Orleans County, a maker of electrical detection and measurement instruments, got a $9,400 assessment grant and a $40,000 implementation grant. The Air Technologies division of American Precision Industries, employing 139 workers in Wyoming County, also received a $10,000 assessment grant and $50,000 implementation grant.
J.A. Yansick Co., a lumber company operating in Hunt and Arcade, Wyoming County, picked up $8,300 in IEP funds.
IEP grants help manufacturers get technical, financial and educational assistance. The funds can pay for productivity-improvement efforts like productivity assessments and feasibility studies. The grants also provide funds for consultants to help evaluate a firm’s internal management or competitive position, and may include the design and implementation of any needed changes.
