B&L, Porsche Design ink deal

Bausch & Lomb Inc. has signed an exclusive licensing agreement to develop a brand of Porsche Design sunglasses, the company announced today. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Porsche Design Management GmBH and Co. KG, founded in 1973, is a sister company of the prestigious automotive firm Porsche AG. The Austrian firm signed on with Bausch after an 18-year licensing agreement with Carrera Optyl ended earlier this year.
Porsche Design sunglasses retail for $200 and up. The partnership plans to unveil its first collection next May in Milan at the world’s largest optical exhibition.
Porsche Design also makes watches, leather goods and luggage.
“We are very pleased that the Porsche family has entrusted us with a brand of such high caliber,” said Jeff Pontius, vice president and global business manager for Bausch’s eyewear division.
“We will work together to increase consumer demand for Porsche Design sunglasses among its core upscale male constituency,” he said. “We will also pursue ways to broaden Porsche Design’s appeal as an aspirational brand for a younger consumer.”
