Frontier Corp. has signed a contract with Nynex Corp. to resell local phone service in Nynex’s seven-state territory, the company announced today.
The agreement is Frontier’s first business line resale deal with a regional Bell operating company. Nynex services sections of New York, Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Connecticut.
Frontier plans to bundle local phone service with its long-distance, cellular, data and international services, targeting the small and midsize business market. The telecom firm launched this packaged approach in mid-1995 and serves 22 markets nationwide.
Next month, Frontier will add local service to its range of telecom services offered to businesses in Boston. In October, Frontier plans to do the same in selected New York markets.
“We have a substantial long-distance customer base and more than 20 sales offices in the northeast region,” said Steven Fernald, Frontier’s vice president of engineering. “We are aggressively rolling out integrated telecommunications services across the country.”
The resale agreement gives Frontier discounts ranging from 11.5 percent to 24 percent, depending on the product. The discounts depend on Frontier meeting certain volume requirements over a five-year period.
