A “minor” leak detected Tuesday night at the Ginna nuclear power plant is now contained, officials at Rochester Gas and Electric Corp. reported today.
The leak was found in one of two pressurizer safety valves at the Ontario, N.Y., power plant. Since the leak was identified, the plant has been operating at 30 percent power, spokesman Thomas Swartz said.
“We will probably be able to repair the leak without shutting it completely down,” Swartz said.
The leak was not related to the recent installation of new steam generators, Swartz said. Nor was it caused by maintenance work conducted over the past 70 days, he said.
The plant should be running at full capacity by the end of this week.
