All shook up at GM
Former Bauch & Lomb exec Ron Zarrella is shaking things up at General Motors, according to a May 1 cover story in Advertising Age magazine.
Zarrella–who flew the B&L coop last December to take GM’s top marketing post –is setting up a brand-management system there more typical of package-goods marketers, the article reports.
Meanwhile, no replacement has been named for Zarrella’s spot as president and chief operating officer. And the company faces, among other things, a class-action shareholder suit and SEC investigation.
Looks like B&L could stand a shakeup, too.
Layers of language
Authors of a recent University of Rochester memo might benefit from an English Comp refresher course. The following excerpt is taken from “Strategic Plans to “Right Size’ the College,” penned by President Thomas Jackson, Provost Charles Phelps and Dean Richard Aslin of the College of Arts & Sciences:
“With major initiatives underway to stabilize, and then responsibly and predictably to grow, net tuition, to reduce central administrative costs, and to assess other major revenue and expenditure issues, it is appropriate to begin a process that will allow the College to get beyond year-to-year reactions to budget news and set course, as expeditiously as possible, on a longer-range plan to strengthen key areas of our programs and build to a bright and competitive future.”
Perhaps after right-sizing the college, these gentlemen can work on right-sizing their sentences, too.
