Catholic Family Center of the Diocese of Rochester has found its new president and CEO.

The organization's board of directors on Tuesday said Marlene Bessette will take over in the role effective Jan. 1. Bessette has served as the chief operating officer since January.

Bessette started working with CFC in April 2012 when she began a nine-month social service leave from Xerox Corp. She originally took a focus on affordable housing and homelessness, and for the last several months has worked with the organization's senior leadership team on planning and organizational stability, CFC officials said.

“Having had the opportunity to work day to day with Marlene over the last three months, I am impressed with her extraordinary capabilities and am confident she will carry on the tradition of excellent leadership at CFC," said Jack Balinsky, the interim president and CEO.

Bessette worked for Xerox for 28 years in a variety of senior management roles, most recently as vice president for strategy and customer loyalty for technical services. Among other honors, she received the Xerox President’s Award in 1995 and was a Rochester Business Journal Forty Under 40 award recipient in 1998.

She succeeds Mark Wickham who was hired to replace longtime CEO Carolyn Portanova when she retired in December 2011
