The Buffalo Bills on Thursday announced Doug Whaley was promoted to general manager. He replaces Buddy Nix, who on Monday announced he had relinquished his duties as GM and would transition to a special assistant with the team.
Whaley becomes the 12th GM in franchise history, Bills officials said.
“Doug has been involved in every level of player personnel throughout his career and he will lead our efforts in reestablishing a winning tradition for this organization and our great fans,” said Bills president and CEO Russ Brandon.
This coming season is Whaley’s fourth with the Bills. Prior to coming to Buffalo, Whaley spent 12 years with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
