New-car sales in August up 23 percent from a year ago

New-car sales in Monroe County skyrocketed in August, while overall sales continue to best 2012 sales, the Rochester Automobile Dealers’ Association Inc. reported this week.

Dealers sold 4,800 new vehicles last month, up more than 23 percent from 3,900 in August 2012. The total was more than 10 percent from 4,361 in July. Used-car sales fell slightly from 2,096 a year ago and 2,138 in July to 2,057 last month.

New and used vehicle sales typically improve from July to August, RADA historical data shows.

Auto dealers in Monroe County sold 6,857 new and used cars and trucks in August, up more than 14 percent from 5,996 in August 2012. The total was up nearly 6 percent from 6,499 in July.
 
Some 47,019 new and used vehicles have been sold in Monroe County from January through August, up nearly 6 percent from 44,566 in period a year ago.
