Duffy endorses Richards for mayor

Lt. Governor Robert Duffy Wednesday endorsed Democratic mayoral candidate Thomas Richards for mayor.

Incumbent Mayor Richards served as the city’s corporation counsel under Duffy, who was mayor of Rochester from 2006 to 2010.

“Governor Cuomo and I are committed to Rochester’s future,” Duffy said. “With Tom Richards as Mayor, we know we always have a friend and partner. Tom is one of the best mayors in New York, not just because he is among the most talented, but because he has a love for Rochester that he brings with him to work every day. He is the right person to keep the progress going in Rochester.”

Richards, the former chairman and CEO of RGS Energy Group Inc., also has the endorsements of the Monroe County Democratic Committee, the Independence Party and the Working Families Party.

Richards and City Council president Lovely Warren are campaigning for the Sept. 10 Democratic primary. The winner will face Green Party representative Alex White in the Nov. 5 general election for a four-year term.
