Xerox Corp. was named a 2012 Top 100 Global Innovator by Thomson Reuters.

The companies were selected on a system that evaluated overall patent volume, patent grant success rate, global reach of patent portfolio and patent influence as evidenced by citations.

Xerox received 1,030 U.S. patents in 2011, including patents from its wholly owned subsidiaries.

In other Xerox news, the company announced one of its local engineers will be presented with the 2013 Black Engineering of the Year Special Recognition award at the upcoming BEYA/STEM Global Competitiveness Conference in February in Washington D.C.

Antonio Williams, director of the marking elements and integration laboratory at the Xerox research facility in Webster, is being recognized for his engineering expertise, leadership skills and a willingness to “up his game” as a researcher. It also recognizes his commitment to diversity and mentoring young professionals.

“Antonio exemplifies the need for our people not only to offer technological expertise, but also contribute in ways that will help our company adapt to this ever-changing market,” said James Larson, vice president of the Xerox Research Center Webster, in a statement.
