Mercy Flight Central to announce major fundraising campaign

Local companies and organizations next week will announce a Light Up the Night fundraising drive and fundraising event for Mercy Flight Central.

The efforts will be led by Constellation Brands Inc., Childress Vineyards, Rochester General Health System and the University of Rochester Medical Center. The campaign will raise funds to purchase night vision goggles for Mercy Flight. The goggles cost roughly $11,000 a pair.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have begun encouraging the use of night vision goggles during emergency medical flights.

The Taste for the Race Fundraiser will be at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 8 at Mercy Flight Central’s Canandaigua base. Tickets are $200 and tables of eight are $1,500.

Additional details will be released at a news conference at Victor-based Constellation Brands Tuesday.
