John Halstead announced Tuesday his intention to retire as president of SUNY College at Brockport in August 2015.

Halstead has led SUNY Brockport since 2005, when he was named the college’s sixth president. He will continue as president through August 2015.

Halstead has 35 years of experience in higher education leadership, including seven years as president of Mansfield University before to coming to SUNY Brockport.

“John Halstead has had a remarkable tenure at the helm of the College at Brockport,” said Scott Turner, chairman of Brockport’s College Council.

Halstead is credited with a number of advances at Brockport, including strengthening the college’s leadership team and launching the first comprehensive capital campaign, which is nearing its $25 million goal.

“The successful completion of our comprehensive campaign will ensure that future generations of students thrive and benefit from the highest quality education both in and out of the classroom,” Halstead said.
