Salvation Army sets goal for 113th annual Red Kettle Campaign

The Salvation Army of Greater Rochester announced a goal of raising $560,000 and attracting 10,000 volunteers to its 113th annual Red Kettle Campaign.

The Red Kettle Campaign is a volunteer-driven initiative that has run in Rochester since 1900. Volunteers work at more than 100 kettles at local malls and other locations, and local businesses and colleges run in-house campaigns as well, Salvation Army officials noted.

“Red Kettles are a symbol of help and hope for more than 50,000 services for our neighbors who need it most,” said Doug Hart, major for the Salvation Army of Greater Rochester. “We’re very fortunate to live in such a giving community. Red Kettle donations help to feed hungry families, shelter the homeless, support adult rehabilitation and disaster services, and provide warm clothing and school supplies for children, as well as a camping experience in the summer."

The campaign opens Friday and runs through Christmas Eve, excluding Sundays.
