RBA survey: Pay for unskilled workers up 3.4%

Starting pay for manual labor has risen by 3.4 percent this year, to $10.59 an hour from $10.24 in 2012, the Rochester Business Alliance Inc. reported Monday.

The data is included in the RBA’s annual wage and salary surveys. Some 202 RBA member companies responded to at least one of four surveys, including manufacturing, non-exempt, professional and managerial, and health and human services.

The surveys asked for information on pay and other compensation, as well as benefits as a percent of payroll.

“These wage and salary surveys offer local employers data they can use to benchmark against regional trends to stay competitive with other companies,” said Barbara Cutrona, RBA vice president of business operations, in a statement.

“Given the current economic conditions, the consistency and stability reflected in the 2013 numbers is certainly welcome.”
