Area stations win broadcasting awards

Three Rochester-area television stations and one radio station took home awards Monday night at the New York State Broadcasters Association’s annual “Awards for Excellence in Broadcasting” event.

The event took place at the Sagamore Resort Hotel in Bolton Landing, Warren County.

WHEC-TV 10 was recognized in the “Outstanding Locally Originated Newscast” category for its coverage of the Christmas Eve tragedy in Webster. WHAM-TV 13 won in the “Outstanding Spot News” category for its coverage of the Christmas Eve shooting in Webster that killed two firefighters. WXXI-TV won in the “Outstanding Individual Program or Series Designed for Children” for its “Homework Hotline” program.

WHAM-AM 1180 won in the “Outstanding Local Newscast” category for its “WHAM Five O’clock News Hour” program.

“Congratulations to these stations for receiving an Excellence in Broadcasting Award,” said NSYBA President David Donovan. “This prestigious honor celebrates stations that provide good stewardship and excellent service to their communities. We admire and commend their efforts to serve the public interest.”
