Genesee Brewing's Lozyniak to step down

Genesee Brewing Co. top executive Richard Lozyniak plans to leave the company to pursue other opportunities, officials said Wednesday.

Lozyniak, a native of Connecticut who graduated from the University of Rochester and then earned his master’s at the Simon Business School, will remain with the company until a successor is named.

Lozyniak became CEO of brewery holding company North American Breweries Inc. in 2009 following its acquisition by New York City private equity firm KPS Capital Partners L.P.

He also oversees Buffalo-based Labatt USA LLC, the U.S. entity of Labatt Brewing Co. Ltd. in Ontario, Canada, acquired by KPS five years ago.

He was with KPS for 14 years, leading the turnaround of three companies in its portfolio. He stayed with the brewery in December 2012 after KPS sold it to Cerveceria Costa Rica S.A.

“Rich has been a tremendous leader in a time of great transition,” said Ramon Mendiola, CEO of Cerveceria parent Florida Ice and Farm Co. S.A., in a statement. “He is an expert at building organizations and navigating change. He has done an excellent job building North American Breweries to its current state.

“However, he recently expressed a desire to find an opportunity to do what he does best, which is to build and turn around companies. We thank him for his many contributions.”

A national search is under way for a new CEO, officials said. The company hopes to have its replacement by the end of March.

Also, North American Breweries’ vice president of marketing, Peter Bodenham, is resigning after nearly 20 years with the company.

James Pendegraft, who works out of Labatt USA offices in Buffalo, has been named vice president of sales and marketing company-wide.
