Verizon Wireless Inc. plans to add 200 full-time employees to its call center in Henrietta in 2013 to meet the needs of a growing customer base.

Currently Verizon Wireless has roughly 1,100 employees at the call center, up from 1,000 when the call center opened in 2000. Officials said the 200 new hires will be customer care and technical support representatives.

“As our customer base grows and the devices and services they use become more sophisticated, providing an outstanding customer experience becomes even more important,” said Chris Felix, president of Verizon Wireless’ Upstate New York Region. “Today’s announcement further endorses our commitment to Rochester and to maintaining superior customer service for our customers.”

Overall, Verizon Wireless employs 1,400 people in the Rochester area between its Upstate New York region headquarters and call center, a network engineering facility and 11 retail stores.
