Rochester Business Journal
November 14, 2012

Rochester has been named one of the top cities in the U.S. when it comes to the number of local residents who are most interested in holiday shopping bargains.

MaxPoint Interactive, a national company that markets a digital retail advertising solution that drives local in-store traffic for retailers and brands, has released its list of the top-10 most cost-conscious U.S. cities. Rochester placed third on the list, behind Erie, Pa. and Leesburg, Va.

In determining the list, MaxPoint analyzed in store and online information, including point-of-sale data, consumption of social media, videos, music, information on local websites and more. The data was used to determine cities where shoppers are most likely to watch their budgets and opt for sales items when shopping for gifts.

The top 10 cities are as follows:
1. Erie, Pa.
2. Leesburg, Va.
3. Rochester
4. Athens, Ohio
5. Greenville, S.C.
6. Lakeland, Fla.
7. Waco, Texas
8. Pine City, Minn.
9. Richmond, Mich.
10. Hattiesburg, Miss.
