Mayor Warren's uncle resigns from city post

The director of executive services for Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren has decided to resign amid questions about whether his hiring was appropriately conducted, a city spokesperson announced late Friday afternoon.

Reggie Hill told city officials he did not want to be a distraction for Warren, mayoral spokeswoman Christine Christopher said.

Hill, who is Warren’s uncle, was hired as a temporary appointment without the position being posted publicly. In addition, Hill reportedly was stopped twice for speeding while driving Warren to Albany.

“There has never been any question about Mr. Hill’s unique qualifications for the position, or the need for his services,” Christopher said a statement.

“The only issues raised have been about process, and we are very confident that all the appropriate procedures were followed in consultation with the Department of Human Resource Management.”

Hill can apply for the position that now is posted, Christopher said.

“If he applies, he will be evaluated by the same process as all other candidates under the supervision of the Department of Human Resource Management,” Christopher said.
