URMC, Jones Memorial expand collaboration

Rochester Business Journal
December 11, 2013

The University of Rochester Medical Center and Jones Memorial Hospital this month expanded a collaboration begun last year, adding new services at Jones Memorial, URMC and Jones Memorial officials said.

URMC neurologists Richard Welles M.D. and Su Kanchana, M.D., and internist Linda Welles, M.D. began seeing patients at the hospital beginning Dec. 3. The Welles, a husband-and-wife team, and Kanchana are members of URMC’s Big Flats, Chemung County-based Southern Tier Neuromedicine practice group.

URMC behavioral psychologist Geoffrey Williams M.D. is slated in January to add smoking cessation and cholesterol and blood pressure management to cardiology services URMC doctors have been providing.

The Allegany County hospital and URMC inked a collaboration agreement in October 2012 calling for URMC to fill gaps in Jones Memorial’s services. Other services URMC has since added at the Wellsville hospital include diabetes care and telemedicine consults.
