Gas prices up in the Rochester region

Rochester Business Journal
August 20, 2013

Gasoline prices in Rochester have risen 26 cents a gallon since the beginning of the year, a weekly survey by GasBuddy shows.

Locally, gas prices increased from $3.52 a gallon Jan. 9 to $3.78 a gallon Aug. 19. Nationally, gas averaged $3.57 per gallon this week, compared with $3.34 per gallon in early January.

In the last month, gas prices in Rochester have risen 6 cents, while nationally the price of gas has fallen 5 cents.

“Americans are now shelling out $50 million less per day than they were last year when pump prices averaged 13 cents more per gallon,” GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan said. “Most states are seeing their average below last year, and as summer slowly fades, gasoline prices may as well in many communities.”

DeHaan noted that cooler weather typically brings relief at the pump as demand declines and discretionary travel ebbs.

GasBuddy operates more than 250 websites tracking gas prices at more than 140,000 stations nationwide, including RochesterGasPrices.com. In Rochester, GasBuddy tracks price changes at more than 300 retail outlets.
