Kessler Family LLC is selling 35 of its franchised Friendly’s restaurants—including 11 in the Rochester area—to Friendly’s Ice Cream LLC. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The transaction is expected to close Wednesday. Officials said customers will experience no disruption of restaurant service.

Also announced Monday, the Kessler Family firm on Wednesday will close eight Central New York restaurants, including in Cortland and Liverpool.

In 2007, Kessler Family was the largest Friendly franchisee, owning 46 restaurants in the Rochester region.

“We’re happy that this initiative is allowing us to preserve the employment of over 1,300 Friendly’s employees in New York State,” said John Maguire, Friendly’s CEO since 2012. “As we look ahead to the future, we have every intention of maintaining the same level of commitment to these restaurants as the Kessler Family LLC has had over the years.”

The area restaurants Friendly’s is acquiring are

• 2425 W. Henrietta Road, Brighton
• 2717 Monroe Ave., Brighton
• 4 Spencerport Road, Gates
• 287 Hamilton St., Geneva, Ontario County
• 3935 Dewey Ave., Greece
• 338 Greece Ridge Center Mall, Greece
• 3081 W. Ridge Road, Greece
• 770 Miracle Drive, Henrietta
• 6555 Fourth Section Blvd., Sweden
• 697 Eastview Mall, Victor
• 1206 Ridge Road, Webster.

Kessler Restaurants LLC had been one of the largest franchisees of Friendly's restaurants, with 47 locations, and it also has 21 Burger King locations, primarily in Upstate New York. Kessler notes that franchising grows the franchisor's brand as well as the franchisee's business.
Brothers Laurence and Dennis Kessler, founders and co-owners of the Kessler Group Inc. and Kessler Family LLC, have given millions to support the growth of the burn and trauma program at the University of Rochester Medical Center, which in 2010 was renamed the Kessler Burn & Trauma Center.
