Waterfront upgrades begin in Fairport

Waterfront improvements along the south bank of the Erie Canal in Fairport begin this week, village officials announced Thursday.

The upgrades will augment $1.5 million in new construction to the east of the project site.

The project, between the lift bridge and the Parker Street bridge, includes upgrades to the pedestrian promenade and boat dock stations. Work should be completed in time for the 2013 boating season, officials said.

“We see this as an investment in community development that will enhance the natural and scenic beauty of our waterfront for years to come,” Kal Wysokowski, executive director of the Fairport Office of Community and Economic Development, said in a statement.

The Fairport Industrial Development Agency received a matching grant of $134,238 for the project through the Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council.
