Rochester’s Ukrainian Federal Credit Union has acquired Buffalo-based Ukrainian Home Dnipro Federal Credit Union, adding assets of $8.9 million, officials said Monday.

The merger is scheduled for completion at the end of next month.

The merger strengthens the Ukrainian-American credit union movement in New York, officials said.

The Ukrainian FCU, founded in 1953, serves 6,700 members in Rochester and nearly 17,000 members nationwide. It employs 50 at offices on Ridge Road East, and at branches in Albany, Syracuse, Boston, Sacramento, Calif. and Portland, Ore.

The Ukrainian FCU ranks seventh on the Rochester Business Journal’s most-recent list of credit unions with assets of nearly $141.4 million.

The Ukrainian Home Dnipro FCU serves 1,200 members in Buffalo.  It employs five at its office on Genesee Street.
