The Residences at Canalside in Fairport completed

The completion of the Residences at Canalside—a five-story condominium development along the waterfront in Fairport—will be celebrated  at 4:30 p.m. Thursday

The project created over 100 jobs in its construction phase. The property had been vacant for the past nine years.

The canal-side redevelopment takes on new meaning this year with the 200th anniversary of the Erie Canal, officials said.

“The village of Fairport is a canal community that capitalizes on its proximity to New York’s iconic attraction, the Erie Canal,” said David Riedman, president of Riedman Cos. “From its earliest days, the presence of the Canal served a source for transportation making Rochester, N.Y. America’s first boomtown. Today, the natural and scenic beauty of the Erie Canal continues to draw residents and tourists for shopping, entertainment, recreation and luxurious living.”

The Residences at Canalside amenities include a courtyard area on the canal with a fireplace and grilling area, heated garage, fitness center, clubroom with a fireplace and a lobby, officials said.

“The Residences at Canalside is a great addition to the housing opportunities available in the village of Fairport,” Mayor Frederick May said. “Located on our waterfront is a definite attraction to individuals who want to be near the Erie Canal and within walking distance to village restaurants, shops and the multitude of events that take place each year. The open concept condos have great views and offer a lifestyle not available before this.”
