SUNY College at Brockport has named a new provost and vice president for academic affairs, selecting former SUNY College at Geneseo business school dean Mary Ellen Zuckerman.
The college announced Friday that Zuckerman will take over the position July 1. She comes from Ithaca College, where she served as dean of business. Prior to that Zuckerman spent 10 years as dean of business at SUNY Geneseo.
Zuckerman succeeds Anne Huot, who left SUNY Brockport to become president at Keene State College in New Hampshire. Douglas Scheidt had been serving as interim provost.
“I’m delighted to be joining the College at Brockport community of students, faculty and staff,” Zuckerman said. “I’ve been very impressed with all that I’ve learned about the excellence and diversity of the Brockport education and the strong focus on student engagement. That student focus, a core of the college’s strategic plan, is one of the main reasons I was attracted to the institution and is one that I fully embrace."
SUNY Brockport president John Halstead noted Zuckerman stood out among a strong group of candidates.
"This accomplished dean combines all of the requisite qualities of a consummate academician, combining experience as both a dean and distinguished professor who understands the faculty culture," Halstead said. "At the same time, she will bring her entrepreneurial talents and knowledge of the Rochester area where she has a home. She is skilled in strategic, budget and academic planning and will bring refreshing, energetic, positive leadership to the division and collegewide.”
