Windstream Corp. has won a contract worth a minimum of $12 million to supply voice and data communications to the Department of Veterans Affairs, company officials said Tuesday.
The pact’s $12 million baseline amount could grow to as much as $20 million over the contract’s five-year span, officials said.
The VA contract consolidates the agency’s communications in 11 northeastern states into a single network.
The award comes after the VA decided last year to create four regional divisions and take bids for communications providers in each one. The 11-state regional contract previously was served by several hundred local vendors. The Northeast contract is the first to be awarded.
Windstream expects to have the VA network in place by the end of this year.
