The Strong's National Museum of Play soon will be open for browsing to Internet users around the world.
The museum is partnering with Google's Street View Indoors technology to create an online tour of the facility. The Strong registered for a Street View Indoors photo shoot through Google affiliate marketing partner Rochester Business Alliance, officials said.
“We're moving ahead with Google Street View Indoors because the technology will allow prospective museum guests to virtually experience the expansiveness of the National Museum of Play’s highly visual and interactive environments," said Suzanne Seldes, Strong vice president for marketing and communications.
The Strong also plans to integrate the technology into the museum's mobile site and website, Seldes said. The published Street View Indoors tour will remain live on all Google servers permanently.
The process from the photo shoot to going live on Google takes about five business days. There is a one-time publishing fee to participate in the program, depending upon the extent of the photo shoot.
Google photographer Jim Hilker said the museum is the perfect venue for Street View Indoors, and that the company "expects the results to be extremely compelling in using the Strong as part of the international marketing of this technology.”
