Harris Corp.’s RF Communications division in Rochester was selected by Savis Tecnologia e Sistemas S.A. to provide a tactical communications system for SISFRON, the largest border security program in Latin America.

Financial details were not provided. Savis is the prime contractor on the SISFRON program.

The company will work with Savis to provide border security personnel with tactical voice, situational awareness and surveillance capabilities from Harris wideband radios. The radios deliver live video, tactical chat and situational awareness.

RF Communications also is to supply tactical communications subsystems, accessories, software, services and support for the pilot phase of the integrated border monitoring system the Brazilian Army is developing across the nation’s western borders.

“Harris solutions will enable secure real-time voice, situational awareness and video communications across all echelons and provide border security forces with unprecedented command and control capability,’’ said Dana Mehnert, RF Communications’ president, in a statement. “This important program significantly expands our presence with the Brazilian Army in support of their communications modernization requirements.’’
