Wickham Farms launches workplace program

Wickham Farms has announced a community supported agriculture delivery program for Rochester-area workplaces.

For 20 weeks, from June through October, workplace CSA members are to receive locally grown vegetables and a few fruits delivered to their workplace.

Wickham Farms grows the crops in Penfield and will deliver them to workplaces that have 15 to 30 participating members, depending on proximity to an existing Wickham Farms delivery route.

“We are very excited about the success of our first CSA season in 2012,” said Bill Wickham, co-owner of Wickham Farms, in a statement. “Our new workplace delivery program gives us a chance to expand our program to reach people who cannot conveniently pickup their shares at our farm. It also enables us to partner with local workplaces who promote healthy lifestyles.”

A CSA is an arrangement between a farmer and the customer in which the customer buys a membership to a farm in advance of the season. The farmer uses the up-front funds for seeds and other growing expenses. In return, the farmer delivers a weekly share of the farm harvest.
