An agreement has been reached on the I-Square project in Irondequoit following a meeting Friday, according to joint statement by town, school, state and project officials.
“After a meeting convened by Assembly Majority Leader Joseph D. Morelle, representatives of the Town of Irondequoit, the West Irondequoit School District, and the I-Square development team were able to successfully resolve the concerns that had delayed this important project, in order to both protect Irondequoit taxpayers and provide a viable framework for the developer,” the statement explains.
As a result of the discussions, I-Square will be granted a payment in lieu of taxes status of up to 25 years. The town board will take up final passage of the PILOT resolution on Feb. 19 to ensure the project begins with the planned construction schedule, officials said.
The statement was from Morelle, Irondequoit Supervisor Mary Joyce D’Aurizio, West Irondequoit Superintendent of Schools Jeff Crane and school board president Chuck Perreaud, and I-Square Developer Michael Nolan, along with an unnamed town council member.
The I-Square Project would consist of seven new buildings on 2.5 acres with construction to begin in the summer 2012, the project website states. When completed it is to include an art gallery, outdoor amphitheater for 400 spectators, community learning center, rooftop gardens, retail, restaurants, office and residential space.
I-Square is owned and operated by Irondequoit residents Michael and Wendy Nolan.
