Black Button Distilling received its federal permit Monday to operate a distilled spirits plant on Railroad Street, hours before a looming government shutdown, clearing the way for the approval of state permits.
The federal approval will save the distillery’s president and head distiller, Jason Barrett, time, headaches and several thousands of dollars, he said, as he continues to shoot for a Dec. 1 opening.
“Now, regardless of what the federal government does, we can move forward with the New York State Liquor Authority on obtaining our state permits,” Barrett said.
Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., and Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-Perinton, nudged the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau to grant the federal approval, Barrett said.
