Revamped emergency room to get new name

Newark-Wayne Community Hospital plans to dub its renovated emergency department the Daniel Alexander M.D. Emergency Department, Rochester General Health System officials said Tuesday.

The health system plans a spring grand opening for the expanded Newark-Wayne Community ED. The Wayne County hospital’s emergency department last year saw some 23,000 patients, more than twice its 11,000 patient a year capacity.

An orthopedic surgeon and owner of the Finger Lakes Bone and Joint Center, Alexander is helping to finance the expansion with a pledge to make the largest gift in the Wayne County hospital’s history. RGHS officials declined to state the gift’s exact amount. The more than half million dollar donation is slated to be made through the physician’s Dr. Daniel Alexander Family Foundation.

“This area has done so much for me and for my family,” Alexander said. “I am proud to know this gift will help Newark-Wayne Community Hospital be there for people during their time of greatest need.”
