The first of two public meetings on the city of Rochester’s plan to install boulevards for bicycles is scheduled for Tuesday at the Rochester Central Library.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the Kate Gleason Auditorium at 115 South Ave.

The Rochester Bicycle Boulevard Plan is designed to create bicycle-friendly rights-of-way alongside the city’s busiest streets, city officials said.

Bicycle boulevards, also known as neighborhood greenways, are a series of inter-connected streets modified to provide cyclists with through streets.

The Tuesday meeting will include an overview of the project, a discussion of national best practices and a comparison of findings on existing conditions, officials said. It also will give the public a chance to suggest desired routes, destinations and other priorities.

Potential boulevard routes will be identified and designed following the meeting, with concepts presented during a second public meeting in June, officials said. The plan is scheduled to be in place this summer.
