For the Rochester Top 100, 2013 marks another year of growth.

The annual program of the Rochester Business Alliance Inc. and KPMG LLP spotlights the region’s fastest-growing private companies, based on dollar and percentage revenue increases over the past three fiscal years, with a minimum of $1 million in annual sales required.

The Top 100 companies this year employed 98,195 people, a 4 percent increase from the 94,167 people employed by firms on the 2012 list. Total employment for the Top 100 companies has risen steadily over the last decade, increasing more than 100 percent since 2003, when it was 42,669.

Revenue also has grown, reaching a record $12.3 billion in 2013. This is up nearly 14 percent from 2012 and up 135 percent over the last 10 years.

Ironwood Heavy Highway LLC (Terry Tree Service LLC) ranks No. 1 on the 2013 list. Re/Max Realty Group and Re/Max 1st Commercial, and Manning Squires Hennig Co. Inc. round out the top three. (See the entire list.)

The top Rochester-area employers on this year’s list are Wegmans Food Markets Inc. with 13,579 staffers and Sutherland Global Services Inc. with 3,335.

The 2013 list includes some of the area’s oldest firms and some of its newest. Cross Bros. Co. Inc. and Gleason Corp. both began in the 19th century. Distributed Technology Group and Tri Tower Telecom Corp. each were launched in 2009.

Today's RBJ print edition includes a 48-page special Rochester Top 100 supplement. Print subscribers also can access a digital replica edition. The print edition with the Rochester Top 100 supplement can be purchased at these locations.
