Winn is committed to community

Rochester Business Journal
February 8, 2013

Dear Editor:
On behalf of everyone at WinnCompanies, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the people of Rochester and the many city and county officials, business owners and civic leaders who supported our decision to acquire the Sibley Building. We are already working hard to keep our promise to redevelop it into an urban center that will greatly benefit the local community and contribute to the exciting Midtown development plan and revitalization of this great city.

When I first came to Rochester to inquire about the acquisition and redevelopment of the Sibley Building many years ago, I was deeply impressed by its history and potential. There are two reasons why WinnCompanies is Rochester's perfect partner for this important project.

The first is that we are an industry leader with a national reputation for turning around troubled properties and completing historically sensitive renovations and adaptive reuses. No other company in the nation has revived more of these types of properties than Winn. In fact, Sibley will be our 18th large-scale historic rehabilitation project.

Second, the community should know that WinnCompanies is a long-term owner-operator of real estate. We still own and manage the very first building we acquired 40 years ago. Making governmental officials, lenders and partners proud of their affiliation with Winn and our projects is fundamental to our philosophy. We are committed to enriching the lives of the communities and people we serve, not just by improving properties we own or manage, but also by acting responsibly where we do business.

Finally, we also would like to thank those of you who have shared with us the wonderful memories of your experiences at Sibley, whether it was sipping chocolate milkshakes with your grandfather or shopping for Christmas gifts with your mom. It's clear that this wonderful old building holds many fond memories for a great number of people.

You have our commitment that we will honor those memories-and create new ones-as we restore this iconic structure to modern glory on the community's behalf.
